Researcher Training

In accordance with NIH requirements, the University of Indianapolis Institutional Review Board requires education on the protection of human research participants for all investigators submitting protocols for review (regardless of funding source). This education may also be required for research team members depending on their involvement with the project. Researchers and key personnel must renew their education/training every two (2) years in order to be considered "current." A complete explanation of training requirements can be found in the Researcher Training Requirements Microsoft Word document document.

All UIndy-affiliated researchers are required to complete the CITI training. The CITI program provides a comprehensive selection of educational modules that satisfies the University of Indianapolis institutional instructional mandates in The Protection of Human Research Subjects. First time users of the CITI program must complete the Basic Course, while researchers renewing their training can complete the Refresher Course. Previously the UIndy accepted the NIH training (administered by the National Cancer Institute). However, the committee voted at its June meeting to require the CITI training for all UIndy researchers.

Non-UIndy researchers, while still needing to complete training, may be able to substitute other comparable forms of training. For a more detailed explanation, view the Non-Affiliated Training Statement Microsoft Word document.

To renew IRB training, researchers who have previously completed the CITI Basic Course may complete the Refresher Course. Researchers who completed the NIH training should complete the CITI Basic Course to renew their training.
